            Û  The Vasteras, Sweden, based band Anachronaeon was   Û
            Û  previously known as Human Failure and this is       Û
            Û  their first recording under their new name. I will  Û
            Û  start off this review by highlighting the positive  Û
            Û  points of this nine-track demo, not because of the  Û
            Û  fact that it is perfect but simply because that     Û
            Û  will get me into a good mood. Above all this demo   Û
            Û  will be remembered for the extremely melodic        Û
            Û  content. Anachronaeon doesn't sound excessively     Û
            Û  Swedish though; instead the melodies are more in    Û
            Û  the melancholic Finnish vein and references such    Û
            Û  as early Amorphis and Sentenced quickly come to     Û
            Û  mind. There is something here for fans of the       Û
            Û  Swedish school as well as "The Amulet" has a nice   Û
            Û  melody that could just as easily have been found    Û
            Û  on In Flames' classic "The Jester Race".            Û
            Û  Anachronaeon are not entirely stuck in the past     Û
            Û  despite these comparisons and there are some more   Û
            Û  experimentive ideas found on this demo. Now we are  Û
            Û  moving towards the negative points of the demo.     Û
            Û  The vocalist (and Jack of all trades) Patrik        Û
            Û  Carlsson uses both clean and growling vocals, very  Û
            Û  possibly influenced by Mikael Akerfeldt. The        Û
            Û  problem here is that his growling vocals are ok     Û
            Û  but his clean voice is not the best. He is a good   Û
            Û  singer, as shown on "Anachronaeon" and "The         Û
            Û  English Wizard" in particular, but he               Û
            Û  unfortunately lacks the voice. Most of this demo    Û
            Û  consists of rather laid-back, melancholic melodies  Û
            Û  but there are some heavier riffs now and then and   Û
            Û  the introductory guitar work on "Confessions Of A   Û
            Û  Lost Soul" is highly impressive. Another problem    Û
            Û  is that the nine tracks musically envisions a       Û
            Û  stream high up in the mountains. It is calm and a   Û
            Û  nice experience for the moment but eventually you   Û
            Û  grow bored with it. The members of Anachronaeon     Û
            Û  are too careful. They need to dare more in the      Û
            Û  future and work on the contrasts. This is           Û
            Û  definitely material that would have benefitted      Û
            Û  from a label's studio budget.                       Û
