Artist : Outermost and Noisebitch Album : This Will Hurt a Bit Year : 2006 Genre : Noise Source : CDR Label : Animal Mal Nata Catalog : Rls.Date : 2007-01-22 Bitrate : VBRkbps Size : 51 MB ----- 1. Wake up call (light rock) 4:26 2. What's so funny 9:42 3. Christian pervert 4:50 4. War in heaven I 1:55 5. War in heaven II 4:42 6. Rigodon 7:05 7. Why don't you just fuck off? 6:52 8. Speaking in tongues 5:36 9. Creatures in the night 2:13 ----- 47:21 ----- Strange little collaboration this one. ‘This Will Hurt A Bit’ pairs up Outermost – who seem to be in a very blippy, whining frame of mind – and Holland’s Noisebitch, who focus on wreaking havoc with natural, acoustic sounds. Two very different takes on noise, with Noisebitch tending to stultify the Outermost output with a tirade of raucous creaks, springs, clutters and scathing blasts of noise, not to mention their standing at the forefront most of the time, volume-wise. With the Outermost noise being pretty thin, moments when Noisebitch does assume a less dominant role tend to suffer (’War In Heaven I’), the whole disc rarely becoming as dense as it perhaps could have; ‘Speaking In Tongues’ is an example of this duo getting that excellent level of intensity and texture. But the interplay created by Noisebitch is still very effective, ‘War In Heaven II’ and ‘Wake Up Call (Light Rock)’ standing out as points where you get a real collaborative vibe – one artist listening to another to produce something which creatively works against what is already in existence. The shorter tracks tend to work the best; I find it a little common in collaborative projects that lengthy tracks can often devolve into being a bit tired and aimless. ‘This Will Hurt A Bit’ largely avoids this, although ‘What’s So Funny’ suffers a little. A few samples also serve to break up the noise, ‘Christian Pervert’ being another diatribe on religious perviness, the pace of sound slowing down to almost a crawl under the looped sample. I should also mention Marcel Herms’ artwork – fabulous, creepy stuff! The disc’s cover is all in full colour, also containing a black and white insert, all laden with Marcel’s drawings and paintings. (Night Science #1) Japan’s Outermost and Holland’s Noisebitch fuse their independent outlooks to collaborate here on a most unique and strange release. “This Will Hurt A Bit” is appropriately titled as both artists here instigate and carry out “deeds of the damned” upon silence and tranquility respectively. Excellent, random attack and a “crossfire” of sounds, sometimes thick (sometimes delightfully thin) that tends to hemorrhage in various degrees of severity. Lots of sound variety, signals everywhere – popping, snorting, spewing, rattling and vomiting (?). Almost like a possessed toy store coming to life in the dead of the night. Nine “brain stimulators” included here-all of various lenghts, geared toward cerebellum shutdown (depending on your state of health and wellness). Fantastic looking full-color CD outer sleeve with liner notes etc. If you’re searching for something away from the standard noise assault then this might be exactly what the mad doctor ordered. (Short, Fast & Loud! #9) Outermost from Japan has been doing noise since ‘92/93 I think, but it has not been a very high profile noise maker. Small and limmited releases on tape, CDr and 7” have been scattered around the underround and also one full length CD. This sounds more like Noisebitch than Outermost. Outermost provides most likely the electronic noises, but Noisebitch’s concrete noise sounds are on top. Dry and untreated sounds of metal, junk and other things truly hurts a bit. This is not really loud. Most of the time it sounds like Noisebitch is cleaning the garage while playing Outermost on the boombox, but it works! It’s not the most usual noise you hear, and once in a while it’s better to listen to this type of sound than a wall of distortion pedal noise.
