         Û  Soniccouture's  quest for the exotic, the unique, the  Û
         Û  esoteric,  and the downright weird and quirky, brings  Û
         Û  us   to   our   latest   obsession,  the  Hang  Drum.  Û
         Û                                                         Û
         Û  You  may  not  have  heard  of  the  Hang  -  it's  a  Û
         Û  relatively  new instrument and it's extremely hard to  Û
         Û  get  hold  of one. First invented in the year 2000 by  Û
         Û  PANArt,  they  are  hand-built  in Switzerland by two  Û
         Û  very  dedicated people, Felix and Sabina. If you want  Û
         Û  one, you must ask them if they will build you one. If  Û
         Û  they  agree, then you may have to wait up to 2 years.  Û
         Û                                                         Û
         Û  The  Hang Drum is played with the hands. Everyone who  Û
         Û  gets  to play one falls in love with it a little bit.  Û
         Û  It's incredibly sensitive and dynamic - it rings pure  Û
         Û  and  true.  It  sounds  like  magic.  The entire disc  Û
         Û  resonates  at  a central frequency as your hands move  Û
         Û  around the edge teasing the notes out.                 Û

         Û  Two Different Drums                                    Û

         Û  There  are two types of Hang, the Mk1 and Mk2. The Mk  Û
         Û  1  had  8 notes around the Ding. These were available  Û
         Û  in  45  different tunings, and PANArt produced nearly  Û
         Û  4000  of  them.  The Mk 2 is basically the same shape  Û
         Û  but  has a brass coating on the top as well as around  Û
         Û  the  rim.  The  Mk  2  comes  in  only five different  Û
         Û  tunings  and has only seven notes around the Ding. It  Û
         Û  is  a  more  sturdy design, stays in tune better over  Û
         Û  time,  and  has  a slightly longer and purer ring. We  Û
         Û  have  recorded  an example of each Hang Drum for this  Û
         Û  sampled instrument.                                    Û

         Û  The Kontakt 2 Hang Instruments                         Û

         Û  The  Soniccouture  Hang Instruments feature over 1000  Û
         Û  samples  per drum, with up to 21 velocity layers. The  Û
         Û  Hang  drums  have been sampled in 6 different areas (  Û
         Û  Gu,  Ding,  Outer Ding, Tone-field Centre, Tone-Field  Û
         Û  Edge,  and  in-between the Tone-field). Each area was  Û
         Û  sampled  being  played with Finger, Slap and knuckle,  Û
         Û  which  is  triggered by key-switches. Each hit has up  Û
         Û  to  3 alternate round-robin versions, to ensure there  Û
         Û  is no 'machine-gun' effect.                            Û

         Û  We  have  presented  our Hang Drums in their original  Û
         Û  keys.  This can be quickly transposed using the drop-  Û
         Û  down  menu  on  the  front  panel of the instruments.  Û
         Û  There  is also a full chromatic mapping included , as  Û
         Û  well  as  a  choice of different key-mappings to suit  Û

         Û  evolving  sequences  from  the  Hang. The acompanying  Û
         Û  Tweak  page  means you can Jam and create soundscapes  Û
         Û  using the delays, filters and reverbs built into each  Û
