Û PLParEQ is a 10-band Phase-Linear Parametric Û
Û Equalizer of the highest quality. Each filter may Û
Û assume any of many different filter characteristics, Û
Û and operate in either traditional phase-warping mode, Û
Û or our phase-linear mode. It uses the same internal Û
Û DSP core as all of our other high-end products. Audio Û
Û streams are treated in either stereo or mono. Û
Û Individual filters can be applied to either both Û
Û stereo channels, middle only, or side only. Û

Û This PC VST plugin can operate in traditional 32-bit Û
Û mode (24-bit audio) or as a 64-bit plugin for Û
Û Cakewalks new Sonar 5. All internal processing is Û
Û carried out in double-precision 64-bit floating Û
Û point, regardless of external host mode. Û

Û For audio streams at sample rates below 80 kHz the Û
Û DSP engine internally upsamples with high-quality Û
Û Sinc interpolation, applies its filtering, and then Û
Û downsamples back to your system sample rate. Û

Û conventional resonant 2-pole lowpass, highpass, Û
Û bandpass, band-reject, all-pass, high and low Û
Û shelving, and the three Oxford variants of Û
Û peaking/dipping filters. Also included are 1-pole Û
Û lowpass and highpass, 4-pole resonant Butterworth Û
Û lowpass and highpass, 6-pole notch for killing 50/60 Û
Û Hz and other troublesome spurs (very tight and Û
Û narrow), 1/F pinking filter, tunable 1/F lowpass (-3 Û
Û dB/octave), tunable F-highpass (+3 dB/octave), and A, Û
Û B, and C weighting filters. The list of filters Û
Û continues to grow as we identify more useful Û

Û You can run all of the filters at native sample rates Û
Û higher than 80 kHz, and forego the internal Û
Û upsampling conversions. Upper limits on the sample Û
Û rate (> 96 kHz) are dicted primarily by your Û
Û computer's capacity, and your need for high quality Û
Û at the very lowest frequencies (below 100 Hz). Û

Û Individual filters can be operated as either Û
Û traditional phase-warping, or phase-linear. Our Û
Û algorithms employ blocked processing for phase Û
Û -linear operation, and produce phase linearity by Û
Û sending the signal through each filter twice - once Û
Û in the forward time direction, and then again the the Û
Û time reversed direction, thereby unwinding the phase Û
Û back to zero. Û

Û The blocks are reassembled using very high-quality Û
Û windowing and 8-fold temporal overlap. IMD resulting Û
Û from phase-linear operation has been measured as -120 Û
Û dB from peak signal levels. (IMD test measurements*) Û
Û Corner frequencies for filters can be adjusted from Û
Û 10 Hz to 30 kHz at all sample rates. Û

Û Computation proceeds in double-precision floating Û
Û point throughout the entire DSP core, which uses 56 Û
Û -bit mantissas and 80-bit intermediate products and Û
Û sums. At the last stage of conversion back to 24-bit Û
Û audio, we dither with a carefully crafted white Û
Û -Gaussian dither from the 56-bit mantissas to the 24 Û
Û -bit mantissas utilized thorughout by VST hosts. Our Û
Û noise floor is typically measured at around -180 Û
Û dB/Root(Hz). The Gaussian dither distribution is Û
Û provably more preserving than more commonly used Û
Û triangular distributions. Û

Û Our tests indicate that PLParEQ requires about 5-6% Û
Û of our computer speed capacity, with each additional Û
Û filter enabled requiring an additional 0.5-1% at the Û
Û highest quality levels. These tests were performed on Û
Û a 3 GHz Pentium-4 computer with HyperThreading Û
Û enabled. Different VST hosts will show varying Û
Û requirements. Our tests were performed with Mackie's Û
Û Tracktion 2 as the VST host. Performance on a more Û
Û modern Pentium IV are likely to show improvements Û
Û upon these results. Û
