  Overview

  Spreadsheet programs must be one of the most versatile software tools ever
  conceived. It is not surprising therefore that these tools are widely applied
  and many of us are familiar with how these tools are used to interface to 
  data and perform a range of analyses. It was this universal familiarity with
  spreadsheets that inspired AIComponents Data Intelligence Add-In for 
  Microsoft® Excel. We wanted to provide a software tool that encapsulated 
  some sophisticated learning algorithms with an easy to use interface 
  operating in an environment that many would be familiar with.

  Microsoft® Excel is great for data exploration with its built in data 
  processing, charting capabilities and facility to write scripts. 
  By placing the Data Intelligence Add-In within Microsoft® Excel the user is
  not concerned with learning a new environment for data querying, formatting
  and pre-processing. Also, because the Data Intelligence Add-In writes model 
  predictions directly to a spreadsheet, further analysis of results is 
  facilitated through Microsoft® Excel with charting capabilities and built in
  functions for sorting, filtering, string matching, etc.

  The Data Intelligence Add-In provides the following ‘public domain’ algorithms:


  * Clustering using either K-means or EM mixture models. Mixture models can be
    created using either diagonal or full covariance matrices. 

  * Decision Trees with the option to control tree complexity via a pruning 
    parameter. Multiple trees (one for each prediction class attribute) 
    can be created within a single model (single execution of training). 

  * Feedforward Neural Network using conjugate gradient search or gradient 
    descent. Attributes can be normalized or scaled. 

  * Association Rules with training parameters to specify minimum rule support,
    lift, confidence, etc.
