         Û  When Synful Orchestra receives MIDI input it looks at  Û
         Û  the pitch, velocity, amount of separation or  overlap  Û
         Û  between  notes,  note  duration,  volume,  pitch, and  Û

         Û  is  being  played.  Synful Orchestra  uses  a  set of  Û
         Û  advanced algorithms to search the RPM Phrase Database  Û
         Û  in  real-time  for  fragments  that  can  be  spliced  Û
         Û  together  to  form   this  phrase.  These   fragments  Û
         Û  represent  transitions  between  notes,  slurs   with  Û
         Û  portamento, lightly  tongued transitions,  aggressive  Û
         Û  fast bowing,  rapid runs,  long sustain  regions with  Û

         Û  A single note in  Synful Orchestra may be  built from  Û
         Û  three or more  rapidly spliced RPM  phrase fragments.  Û
         Û  Splicing  ordinary  PCM sampled  sounds  in this  way  Û
         Û  would create unacceptable warbles and clicks.  Synful  Û
         Û  Orchestra uses a patented form of additive  synthesis  Û
         Û  in which  sounds are  generated from  combinations of  Û
         Û  pure sine waves and noise elements. This gives Synful  Û
         Û  Orchestra the ability to rapidly stretch, shift,  and  Û
         Û  splice  phrase  fragments  while  preserving  perfect  Û

         Û  Realistic note  transitions begin  before a  new note  Û
         Û  starts. When a wind  player plays a slur,  the timbre  Û
         Û  and intensity  of the  current note  begins to change  Û
         Û  well before the pitch  changes to the new  note. This  Û
         Û  anticipation of the upcoming note is a key aspect  of  Û
         Û  expressive playing.  Performers can  do this  because  Û
         Û  they know ahead of time when they are going to play a  Û
         Û  new  note and  they prepare  for it  with changes  in  Û
         Û  embouchure and breath pressure.                        Û

         Û  To model this kind of expression a synthesizer  needs  Û
         Û  to  have the  same knowledge  of the  future. Synful   Û
         Û  Orchestra handles this  with two modes  of operation.  Û
         Û  When playing  live from  a keyboard  Synful Orchestra  Û
         Û  has no knowledge of when a new note is coming, and so  Û
         Û  it does its best to react as expressively as possible  Û
         Û  with low  latency when  a new  note occurs.  However,  Û
         Û  when  playing from  a sequence  Synful Orchestra  can  Û
         Û  optionally add a delay to the Midi input. This  delay  Û
         Û  allows Synful  Orchestra to  look ahead  in the  Midi  Û
         Û  sequence, recognize  when a  new note  is coming, and  Û
         Û  anticipate it with appropriate changes to the  timbre  Û
         Û  and intensity of the current note. The result is more  Û

         Û  Any Synful  Orchestra solo  instrument can  be turned  Û
         Û  into  a  natural sounding  section.  Synful Orchestra  Û

         Û  variation between players. You can select the  number  Û
         Û  of  players  in  the  section,  how  the  players are  Û
         Û  positioned on stage,  the rhythmic variation  between  Û

         Û  natural divisi.  If you  play a  monophonic line with  Û
         Û  ten violin players then  they all play that  line. If  Û
         Û  you play a ten note chord then each player will  play  Û
         Û  one note  in the  chord and  the ten  players will be  Û
         Û  spread out in  space. If you  play three note  chords  Û
         Û  then   the   ten   players   distribute    themselves  Û
         Û  automatically 4-3-3 across the notes.                  Û

         Û  Synful  Orchestra  instruments  are  positioned  on a  Û
         Û  virtual stage. The player and listener positions  and  Û
         Û  room size  can be  adjusted. Each  instrument in  the  Û
         Û  orchestra  sounds  like its  coming  from a  specific  Û
         Û  location.  The  Synful  sound  positioning technology  Û
         Û  uses  inter-aural level  differences and  inter-aural  Û
         Û  time differences, direct signals and as well as  wall  Û
         Û  and   ceiling   reflections   to   synthesize  player  Û
         Û  position. The result is much more realistic  sounding  Û

         Û  Authentic Vibrato Controlled from the Mod Wheel        Û

         Û  Traditional  samplers  have two  ways  of introducing  Û
         Û  vibrato  – both  are inadequate.  In the  first, the   Û
         Û  vibrato is recorded with the sample. The vibrato  can  Û
         Û  sound authentic but it  is frozen so that  you cannot  Û
         Û  control it as part of an expressive performance.  The  Û
         Û  second way records  samples without vibrato  and then  Û
         Û  applies artificial frequency and amplitude modulation  Û
         Û  (LFO)  during   synthesis.  This   allows  expressive  Û
         Û  control but sounds artificial because the vibrato  is  Û
         Û  too simple.  Synful Orchestra  uses its  RPM additive  Û
         Û  synthesis  technology  to provide  the  best of  both  Û
         Û  techniques.  With  Synful Orchestra  the  vibrato you  Û
         Û  hear is the original rich and complex vibrato of  the  Û
         Û  recorded phrases  in the  RPM database.  However, you  Û
         Û  can also control the  vibrato using the Mod  wheel so  Û
         Û  that it sounds expressive  within the context of  the  Û
